About Massigo Travels

Discover Djibouti Through the Eyes of Local Experts

Every unforgettable journey begins with trust.

At Massigo Travels, we believe that exploring Djibouti is about far more than visiting famous landmarks. It’s about discovering a country through the people who know it best—walking across landscapes shaped by millions of years of geological history, meeting communities that have preserved centuries-old traditions, and experiencing places that many travelers never have the opportunity to see.

As a locally owned travel agency, we don’t simply organize tours. We create meaningful journeys that allow travelers to experience Djibouti with confidence, authenticity, and genuine local insight.

Whether you’re planning your first visit or returning to explore more of the country, our goal remains the same: to help you experience the real Djibouti—comfortably, safely, and at your own pace.

Our Story

Massigo Travels was founded with a simple idea:

Travel should connect people with places—not just take them there.

Djibouti is one of Africa’s most remarkable destinations, yet it remains one of its least understood. Visitors often arrive knowing about Lake Assal or Lake Abbe but quickly realize that reaching these places requires more than a map or GPS.

It requires local knowledge.

Over the years, we saw travelers miss incredible opportunities because itineraries were rushed, destinations were poorly timed, or local experiences were overlooked altogether.

Massigo Travels was created to change that.

Today, we specialize in carefully planned journeys that combine adventure, culture, nature, and genuine hospitality, allowing travelers to experience Djibouti the way it deserves to be experienced.

Built on Local Knowledge

What makes Massigo Travels different isn’t simply our tour packages.

It’s the people behind them.

Our founders were born and raised in Djibouti and have spent years exploring its deserts, mountains, coastlines, villages, and national parks.

That lifelong connection allows us to recommend the right routes, the best times to visit each destination, and experiences that go beyond the typical tourist itinerary.

Instead of following fixed schedules, we design journeys around how Djibouti naturally unfolds—from sunrise over Lake Abbe to the changing colors of Lake Assal and the calm waters of the Gulf of Tadjoura.

Meet Our Founder — Moussa Mohamed

One of the greatest strengths of Massigo Travels is that our company was built by people who have lived the experiences they now share with visitors.

Moussa Mohamed, widely known as Moussa, was born in Randa, in northwestern Djibouti, into a semi-nomadic Afar family.

Growing up between village life, mountain landscapes, and urban education gave him something no guidebook can offer—a deep understanding of both Djibouti’s natural environment and its people.

Those early experiences developed into a lifelong passion for travel, culture, and storytelling.

Today, Moussa is recognized as one of Djibouti’s experienced professional guides, with extensive knowledge of the country’s geography, traditions, wildlife, and cultural heritage.

His expertise extends beyond Djibouti itself, including neighboring Ethiopia, Somaliland, and Yemen, allowing him to provide valuable regional context for travelers interested in the Horn of Africa.

He speaks English, French, Arabic, Afar, Somali, and Amharic, making communication effortless for visitors from different parts of the world.

Leadership in Djibouti Tourism

Experience matters.

Since 2014, Moussa has worked as a certified professional tourist guide, helping travelers discover Djibouti through carefully designed experiences rather than hurried sightseeing.

In 2019, he founded the Djibouti Tourist Guides Association, an organization dedicated to improving the professionalism of local guides and promoting sustainable tourism throughout the country.

He continues to serve as its president, working alongside tourism professionals to strengthen visitor experiences while supporting the long-term development of Djibouti’s tourism industry.

For our guests, this means traveling with a team that actively contributes to the future of tourism—not simply participates in it.

Meet Adan — Logistics & Expedition Specialist

Behind every successful expedition is careful planning.

That responsibility belongs to Mohamed Ahmed, better known as Adan.

Raised near the Day Forest National Park in the Tadjourah region, Adan grew up surrounded by one of Djibouti’s most remarkable natural environments.

From an early age, he interacted with travelers visiting the national park while continuing the semi-nomadic traditions of his family.

Over time, he became a specialist in hiking routes, desert expeditions, and the historic Afar salt caravans that have crossed Djibouti’s landscapes for generations.

Since 2010, Adan has managed a tourist camp while organizing guided excursions throughout northern Djibouti.

His practical knowledge of routes, terrain, and local communities plays a vital role in ensuring every journey runs smoothly and safely.

More Than Tour Guides

At Massigo Travels, we see ourselves as local hosts rather than tour operators.

Every itinerary is designed with three principles in mind:

Authentic Experiences

We believe every destination deserves time and attention. Rather than rushing from one attraction to another, we create itineraries that allow travelers to appreciate each place fully.

Thoughtful Planning

Travel in Djibouti requires understanding distances, terrain, weather conditions, and local logistics. We carefully coordinate every journey so that travelers can focus on enjoying the experience rather than managing it.

Genuine Hospitality

Our relationship with guests doesn’t begin when the tour starts—it begins the moment you contact us. From visa assistance to your final day in Djibouti, we’re committed to making every step of your journey as smooth as possible.
